December 1 – Responsibility

I am beside you. A very human Jesus, who understands all your weaknesses, and sees too your struggles and conquests.

Remember, I was the Companion of the Weak. Ready to supply their hunger. Teaching My followers their responsibility towards all, not only those near and dear to them, but to the multitude.

“Lord, send them away that they may go into the villages and buy themselves victuals,” said My disciples, with no sympathy for the fainting, exhausted men, women, and children.

But I taught that Divine Sympathy includes responsibility. “Give ye them to eat,” was My reply.  I taught that pity, without a remedy for the evil, or the need, is worthless.

“Give ye them to eat.” Wherever your sympathy goes, you must go too, if possible. Remember that in thinking of your own needs. Claim from Me the same attitude now.

The servant is not above his Master, certainly not in Spiritual attainments, and what I taught My disciples, I do.

So fainting and needy, by the lakeside of life, know that I will supply your need, not grudgingly, but in full measure.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due 
season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9

June 24 – Zest in Service

Your will, your desire, must be to do My Will, wanting It, loving It, as a child hugging some treasure to its heart. So treasure My Will.

Find your delight in It. “Lord, what wouldst Thou have me to do?” is no question of a sullen servant. It is the eager appeal of a friend, who views all life as a glorious adventure, with the enthusiasm of a youth permitted to share an explorer’s quest.

Bring the unquenchable Zest into all you do.

March 3 – Shining Through

As you grow like Me so My Love must reflect more and more through you, Divinity and Majesty.

Sublime thought, yes, but you doubt if this can be. But God is Love, so God is Majesty. Thus gradually into the lives of those who follow Me there comes My Dignity and Majesty.

Have you not traced it in My closest friends?

March 2 – Complete In Me

A Rock of Defense. A Joy to the saddened. A Rest to the weary. Calm to the ruffled.

A Companion of the sunlit glades. A Guide through the deserts of life. An Interpreter of experience. A Friend. A Savior.

All these and many more would I be to you. Never a heart’s need that I could not soothe and satisfy.

Search the ages. Many men have been many things to other hearts, but never one man to all men, never one man all to one man. This only the Maker of Hearts could be.

Not only so, but in Me the soul finds its completion.

March 2 – Spirit Words

“The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”

Just as much as the words I spoke to My disciples of old. This is your reward for not seeking spirit-communication through a medium. Those who do it can never know the ecstasy, the wonder, of spirit-communication as you know it.

Life, Joy, Peace, and Healing are yours in very full measure. You will see this as you go on. At first, you can hardly credit the powers I am bestowing on you.

I sent My disciples out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits, and to heal all manner of diseases.

Wonderful indeed must it have been to St. Peter to feel suddenly that His Lord’s power was his.

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must
worship him in spirit and in truth. – John 4:24

March 1 – Arise From Defeat

It is not upon one battle alone that all depends, or there would be no hope for My failures.

You enter upon a long campaign when you enter My army. Is the battle lost? Acquaint yourself with the cause, discover your weakness, and with dauntless faith, go forth resolved this time to conquer.

No man can conquer who has not learned his weakness, not made ready for the next conflict, and who does not know and claim and trust My strength, always available when summoned, as you have already proved.

Changes coming for God Calling

Update on the changes coming to www.twolisteners.org

Beginning in July, emails will come to you through the MailChimp delivery services rather than from the WordPress site. This might mean that new emails go to your spam folder until you whitelist the new email address.

I will send a test email from the MailChimp service tomorrow, June 30.   Please check your inbox for that email.  If it is not there, please check your spam folder.

I am in the process of migrating the website to a new hosting company, and am also changing the email delivery system to avoid any future problems such as the ones we have recently experienced at WordPress.  I expect that migration to be invisible to you, with no down time.

One advantage to the new email systems will be that you will be able to choose which emails you want.  Your choices will be 

  • God Calling (morning devotionals)
  • God At Eventide (evening devotionals)

I’d like to know how many would be interested in re-starting the Thursday Treasures emails (a portion of classic Christian literature emailed out each Thursday).  I’ll offer it as a choice with the first emails that come out.  If we have enough interest in the Thursday Treasures, we’ll restart those as an option.

For those of you living across the dateline in the eastern hemisphere, we will be able to create emails to arrive a day earlier for you.  You’ll just choose between the WESTERN hemisphere (Americas – north, central, south) and the EASTERN hemisphere for your email delivery.

If you have suggestions to improve the website or the emails, please email them to me.  This is a great opportunity to try to work in your ideas and suggestions as we are in the process of rebuilding both the website and the email delivery process.

December 31 – New Year’s Eve

Bring to Me this eventide the past year with its sins, its failures, its lost opportunities.

Leave that past with Me, your Savior today as ever, and go into the New Year forgiven, unladen, free.

Bring to Me your youth or age, your powers, your love — and I, as your God-guide through the year to come, will bring My agelessness, My powers, My love.

So shall we share the burdens and the joys, and the work of the days that lie ahead.

December 31 – Jesus the Conqueror

Jesus. That is the Name by which you conquer. Jesus. Not as cringing suppliants but as those recognizing a friend, say My Name — Jesus. “Thou shalt call His Name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.”

And in that word “sins” read not only vice and degradation, but doubts, fears, tempers, despondencies, impatience, lack of Love in big and little things. Jesus. “He shall save His people from their sins.” The very uttering of the Name lifts the soul away from petty valley-irritations to mountain heights.

“He shall save His people from their sins.” Savior and Friend, Joy-bringer and Rescuer, Leader and Guide — Jesus. Do you need delivering from cowardice, from adverse circumstances, from poverty, from failure, from weakness?

“There is none other Name . . . whereby you can be saved” — Jesus. Say it often. Claim the Power it brings.

“Let them praise the name of the Lord: for his name alone is 
excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.” Psalm 148:13

December 30 – Sensitive To Me

So silently I teach, and that silent teaching depends upon your approach.

Let every discipline, every joy, every difficulty, every fresh interest serve to draw you nearer, serve to render you more receptive to My Word, serve to make you more sensitive, more spiritually aware.

It is this sensitiveness that is the prelude to the joy I give you. The sweetest harmony can be played on a sensitive instrument.

Those who fail to hear think Me far off. I am ever ready to speak but they have missed the power of discipline, the wonder of Communion with Me.
